Flautist Rowland Sutherland and percussionist Jackie Walduck lead this ensemble exploring free improvisation.

Led by flautist Rowland Sutherland and percussionist Jackie Walduck, Ethereal World is an ensemble of highly skilled improvisers known for their commanding performances in cross-cultural music, free improvisation, experimental and contemporary classical music. 


The ensemble draws on a pool of artists who are active throughout Europe. The ensemble explores free improvisation and experiments with both conventional and unconventional notation, merging genres to create a soundworld that is ecstatic, transcendental, provocative and volatile.

Rowland Sutherland is a successful and versatile British flautist who has worked as leader, educator and soloist internationally and with ensembles from City of London Sinfonia to Gnawa musicians of Morocco. British vibes player Jackie Walduck is a founder of the Ignite ensemble, a new chamber group working with improvisation, and has worked with Omani musicians and the ensemble Tactile, launched in 2015
