Description

Kevin is a man with wonderful musical ideas, and the ability to express them clearly and joyously.
Kevin Flanagan Tenor sax, David Gordon Piano, Tom Hooper Drums, Joel Humann Bass

Kevin comes from Lowell, Mass. USA.. He settled in the UK in the mid-80's and worked on the London jazz and pop scene, playing and recording with B.B.King, Paul Weller, and members of Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Sex Pistols and Portishead, as well as various West African High Life and salsa groups. He became primarily involved in jazz, playing with his own group and others at festivals in the UK such as Glastonbury, Brecon, Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Brighton and major festivals in Europe. He has had works commissioned and performed by orchestras in London and Cambridge.

Dave plays both with Riprap and with his own trio, and for him jazz and Baroque music have remained equally irresistible forces. Dave also works as a solo improviser with the London Contemporary Dance School, as a harpsichordist with the Academy of Ancient Music and other Baroque orchestras and in New Zealand and Australia as a recitalist. He writes not only for his trio, but also for BBC Radio 3, and has recorded CD's with his crossover band Respectable Groove and the band Zum. Dave is also currently working with Chris Garrick and the singer Jacqui Dankworth.

Tom began playing professionally at age 14, performing with local band's and doing summer season pit work. Tom embarked on a professional career that has taken him all over the world performing and recording with many artists including Grace Jones, Simple Minds, Skye (singer with Morcheeba) , John Dankworth OBE, Christian Garrick, Kinobe, Stroke, Omar, The Kairos Ensemble, Ben Earle, Alwyn Wall and Norman Barratt and many more.

The bass playing of Joel Humann when we last saw him was something of a revelation. His solos ranged from prayerful to driving up tempo.

Dave is a richly gifted player with a sparkling style and boundless imagination Phil Johnson, the Independent on Sunday
