Description

Arrowsmith:Robb Trio is a transatlantic collaboration between UK-based Jess & Richard Arrowsmith (Melrose Quartet, Hekety) and Canadian folk music veteran Ian Robb (Finest Kind. Jiig, Friends of Fiddler's Green). The combination of fine vocal and instrumental talents and an immediate musical chemistry quickly produced some great song and tune arrangements

Jess and Richard Arrowsmith are singers and musicians (fiddle & melodeon) and well established in the traditional English music scene. They bring you powerful vocals, subtle accompaniments, lively tunes and a broad range of material that will have you laughing, weeping, tapping your feet and joining in the choruses. Jess's self-penned songs have been performed and recorded by a range of other artists and are entering the tradition in their own right. Jess & Richard's latest project in conjunction with James Fagan & Nancy Kerr as the Melrose Quartet earned them a nomination for Best Group at the 2014 BBC Folk Awards. Other projects past & present include Hekety, Glorystrokes, Crucible and Pecsaetan.

Ian Robb's musical roots were in choral music; as a boy soprano in London, England, he sang for a couple of years with one of the Westminster abbey choirs. Later, as a teenager in the sixties, he discovered the British folk music revival, and honed his skills as an interpreter of traditional song, not to mention his powerful voice, in the pub-based British folk club environment.

Moving to Canada in 1970, Ian soon became a regular at Toronto's venerable and now defunct Fiddler's Green folk club, and was a founding member of the now well-known Friends of Fiddler's Green, who are currently in their 37th year of performing together, and were recipients of the 2003 Estelle Klein award for services to folk music in Ontario.

Early in the seventies, Ian took up the English concertina, and is now recognized as one of North America's premier exponents of the instrument in song accompaniment and dance music.

Green Note Profile Pic

Description

Green Note was founded by two friends and passionate music lovers who wanted to create their ideal place to hang out in London...

Our dream was to create a place where we could share music that we loved – somewhere with a laid back, intimate and friendly atmosphere. Becoming friends in our school days, the seed for our idea was planted many years ago. After lots of hard work, many ups and downs, and learning more than we ever could have imagined along the way, our dream became a reality when Green Note opened its doors in the Summer of 2005. Now in our fourteenth year, we have established a reputation as one of London’s best spots for roots, world and acoustic music, and we’re constantly astonished by the wealth of incredible musicians who grace our stage. We’re really proud of what we have created, and happy to be able to share it with you.
