An evening of the best in UK Americana
Featuring Matt Owens & The 49ers, with Special Guests Alex Lipinski and Sadie Jemmett.
Matt Owens
British born singer-songwriter and musician Matt Owens first came to prominence as a founder member of indie-folk band Noah and the Whale. Releasing four albums, Noah and the Whale achieved huge success in the UK and overseas, selling over one million albums in the UK alone. The band toured the world between 2006 and 2015, playing hundreds of festivals, including Austin City Limits, Fuji Rocks and Lollapalooza, as well as touring with the likes of Arcade Fire, Bahamas, and Laura Marling.
February 2019 saw the release of Matt's debut solo album, "Whiskey and Orchids" to widespread critical acclaim including a 5 star review in Maverick Magazine. It is an album that sits closest to "Americana" with its rich, lyrical storytelling, shot through with gallow's humour, combined with Matt's return to his beloved acoustic guitar, betraying hints of favourite artists Neil Young and Warren Zevon. Nigel Stonier produced the album which featured Tom Waits' drummer Michael Blair, Thea Gilmore, Carleigh Aikins from Bahamas, and Robert Vincent.
The album received substantial Radio play from BBC 6 Music, 5 LIVE, BBC Scotland and BBC Wales. A UK Tour supporting Thea Gilmore followed in May, (with Matt also playing in her band) then a summer of 25 festivals including Glastonbury and joining Robert Vincent on his Autumn UK Tour.
2020 will see the release of Matt's second album, which he's recording in January with his newly assembled band, The 925ers.
Alex Lipinski
The first thing that hits you is the voice. Alex Lipinski's caressing sympathy, full-throated resentment, and the raw rockabilly excitement of earliest Elvis have grabbed unwary listeners from the West Country to Krakow, Berlin and New York, since he first left Somerset to become a crucial habitué of Soho's legendary, lost 12-Bar Club.
He has followed in the footsteps of his hero Dylan to write in the Chelsea Hotel, and sung songs in the home of an admiring Liam Gallagher, who is a firm champion.
A brief tenure heading up Phoneys & The Freaks with Oasis's Paul 'Bonehead' Arthurs brought forth an EP, festival appearances and touring in the U.S and Italy. Lipinski's latest album 'ALEX' was recorded and produced in Berlin by Anton Newcombe (The Brian Jonestown Massacre) and released on Anton's 'A' Recordings label.
Hailed by Newcombe as, a young man worth my time and efforts. I appreciate his endless hard work and do it yourself ethics. Make no mistake, these songs have all the qualities of timeless music.
Sadie Jemmett
Sadie Jemmett's extraordinary songs reflect a remarkable life, from a wildly bohemian childhood and teenage runaway to her role today as one of the most original singer-songwriters to excite our ears in many years.
Sadie's new album Phoenix was released June 2019 on TwoUpTwoDown Records and produced and recorded by Joby Baker (Cowboy Junkies, The Waylin' Jennys) on Vancouver Island, Canada.
'Don't Silence Me', the critically acclaimed single and music video from the album has already made international headline news on both CBS and the BBC and has been hailed as ' A powerful Anthem for the #metoo movement' .
Sadie's first album,'The Blacksmith's Girl', was mixed and produced in Los Angeles by Grammy winner David Bianco (Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash). The album was released in autumn 2011 to critical acclaim on Wildflower Records, the label run by American folk legend Judy Collins.
London Love Songs, Sadie's second album, was recorded partly at the legendary Abbey Road Studios, London.
