Minories To Poplar Guided Walk With Derelict London Author Paul Talling Event Title Pic

Description

A guided walking tour with Paul Talling, author of London's Lost Rivers and Derelict London + pub buffet included!

This is another walk around Tower Hamlets following a route from the edge of Whitechapel onto Shadwell, Limehouse and into Poplar and despite these areas being the subject of many of my other walks we cover a totally different route in this walk to those you have done with Paul before, seeing & talking about many different interesting subjects.

This walk covers old railyards, arches, visible shrapnel damage from World War II, dead pubs, the shop (now cafe) where Harrods used to be before the move to Knightsbridge, surviving traffic bollards with the initials of a theatre which tragically collapsed a few days after it opened in 1828, Wiltons (London's oldest surviving grand music hall), the boarded up  St Paul's Mission Room (as featured in the All New Edition of Derelict London), Swedenborg Gardens the site of a Swedish Church from  1728 to 1911, a park opened by King George V on the site of a former fish market, the mouth of the Black Ditch (one of London's Lost Rivers) where it joins the River Thames and much more including a few quirky tangents as usual along the way.

The walk which lasts around 3 hours end at Chrisp Street Market in Poplar which is a 2 min walk from All Saints DLR station. After the walk there is a generous pub buffet included in the ticket price. Many of you already know this pub (we often stop off here on the Limehouse & Poplar walk). Lovely East London hospitality, reasonably priced drinks and its got a jukebox, pool table and dartboard too!

Please note that this this walk is all outdoors and does not involve trespassing on private property. Dogs are welcome.

By purchasing a ticket for a walk you are agreeing to the following terms and conditions:
