Description

Luke is a singer/songwriter from Canterbury, Kent, who in 2013 was nominated in the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards for both the Horizon Award for Best Emerging Talent and The Young Folk Categories. He was also winner of FATEA's Male Artist of the Year 2014 and again in 2016 and is no stranger to Live In the North East audiences having played North Shields every year since 2016.

Over the past few years he has steadily been developing a reputation for himself either through his solo and band shows, his many festival appearances or when opening for the likes of Show of Hands, Steve Knightley, Martyn Joseph, Seth Lakeman, Karine Polwart, Oysterband, Paul Brady to name a few.

He has completed several tours of Scotland, with sold out nights at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and regularly tours across Europe playing in France, Belgium, The Netherlands and Germany.

Last year saw Luke play his first USA tour and he will be heading back across the Atlantic again during 2020.

His début album 'More Than Boys', produced by the acclaimed Welsh singer/songwriter Martyn Joseph, appeared in 2012 to great reviews, and was followed by 'Fumes and Faith' in early 2014.

In November 2016 came Luke's third full studio album, 'Tall Tales and Rumours' which won universal critical acclaim. Maverick, in a 5 star review, described it as a brilliant, thoughtful album Jackson shows talent beyond his years.

His latest album Journals released in 2019 has been unanimously praised as his best to date.

Live In The North East is delighted to be hosting the fifth successive North Shields gig for this extraordinarily talented musician. Please make sure you book early; Luke's North East gigs are becoming increasingly popular and his past two gigs sold out well in advance.

''He has a stage presence that many artists would kill for and a voice and guitar style that make you think that he's a sixty year veteran who happens to have discovered the fountain of eternal youth.''

FATEA Magazine

''If you think previous comparisons to Richard Thompson jump the gun, think again; because there's something that sets this performance a discreet cut above the rest.''

Edinburgh Fringe Festival Review

Blessed with one of those soulful, heaven-sent voices that soars with emotion or plunges into brooding intensity as this highly personal song diary dictates, Jackson has surely realised his potential with his fifth and finest album yet.
