White Wall Cinema Presents Bonnie & Clyde Alt. Valentines Day Pop Up Cinema Event Title Pic

Description

Alternative Valentines Pop Up Cinema Night
BONNIE AND CLYDE (1967)
DIRECTOR: Arthur Penn
STARRING: Warren Beatty, Faye Dunaway, Michael J. Pollard, Gene Hackman, & Estelle Parsons.

||They're young. They're in love. And they kill people. ||

There is something about doomed love that captures the imagination, from Romeo & Juliet & Casablanca to Gone With The Wind & Titanic it's the stuff that storytelling is made of.

But it's Arthur Penn's 1967 cinematic vision of real life bank robbing couple Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow that revolutionised the cinematic lexicon of love that set the template for the likes of Terence Malick's Badlands, Tony Scott's True Romance, Luc Besson's Leon, Oliver Stone's Natural Born Killers, Ridley Scott's Thelma & Louise and David Lynch's Wild At Heart just to name a few.

The gun-on-the-run magnetism of Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway would give birth to a new vision of style, bloodshed, glamour that would sweep away the last vestiges of the Hays code, spark a fashion trend that sent sales of berets sky rocketing, and set the bar for the "New Hollywood" that was to pave the way for the likes of Scorsese and Tarantino. Bonnie and Clyde's resonance across pop culture is unmatched, inspiring artists across the generations such as duets by Serge Gainsbourg and Brigitte Bardot as well as Jay Z & Beyonce.

Nominated for 10 Oscars (winner of 2), legendary American film critic Roger Ebert called the film "a milestone in the history of American movies, a work of truth and brilliance.... pitilessly cruel, filled with sympathy, nauseating, funny, heartbreaking, and astonishingly beautiful. If it does not seem that those words should be strung together, perhaps that is because movies do not very often reflect the full range of human life."

Join us for a special alternative Valentine's day pop up film screening at Wagner Hall on Friday Feb 14th at Wagner Hall.
