With a remarkable twenty-nine albums to his name, Brooks Williams is at the top of his game. He may call the UK home now, but his music and manner are firmly rooted in his Statesboro, Georgia, USA birthplace. Brooks' wide smile and gentle grace immediately puts his audience at ease as he takes you along on a journey from the roots of the early country-blues legends such as Robert Johnson and Blind Willie McTell, through jazz, folk and Americana. Brooks is a guitarists' guitarist, a skilled interpreter of the standards with a style that is unmistakably his own. He's also a soulful singer who writes and delivers his own great songs (new favourites!) alongside old ones. Behind his relaxed, easy manner lies a sophisticated fingerpicker and a mean bottleneck slider with a groove set up on his battered Atkin J-43 second-to-none in acoustic music.
He's a lovely player, a lovely singer and a great writer...the real thing (Martin Simpson)
He's joined by special guest and remarkable fiddler Aaron Catlow, half of the Bristol based duo with Kit Hawes. Their take on acoustic and folk music is fresh and inventive, re-shaping traditional music as well as writing their own. When not gigging with Kit, Aaron also plays with Yola Carter, Sheelanagig and now Brooks Williams. Songline calls Catlow fleet fingered.... R2 Magazine remarks on the dexterity, energy and passion...
Together the interplay between Williams and Catlow is instantly and intuitively present making the celebratory evening a very special night to remember!
