Danni Nicholls

I'm delighted to welcome back Danni Nicholls with her fabulous band. consisting of Thomas Dibb and Mark Lewis (both no strangers to Billericay). It's no secret that Danni is one of my favourite artists and I can guarantee that we're in for an outstanding live set to finish.

From a young age, Bedford born Danni, was soaking up American folk, country and rock 'n' roll music from her Grandmother's record collection. When she inherited her Uncle Heathcliff's 1963 Burns London Shortscale Jazz guitar (rumoured to have belonged to Billy Fury!) aged 16, all those influences came pouring back in the form of her own original material and has been flowing ever since.

Danni has released two critically acclaimed albums both of which were produced by bassist/producer Chris Donohue in Nashville and feature some of the city's finest musicians including the legendary Al Perkins (Bob Dylan, Gram Parsons, The Rolling Stones) Will Kimbrough (Jimmy Buffett, John Prine) and Steve Fishell (Willie Nelson, Linda Ronstadt).

2017 proved to be a wonderful year which saw Danni supporting Shakin' Stevens on his 28 date major UK tour to opening one of only two UK shows for Lucinda Williams. In addition, Danni was invited to perform at the Americana Music Association UK awards in front of notables such as Imelda May, Jools Holland and Van Morrison and showcased at prestigious events such as Cambridge Folk Festival, Tonder Festival in Denmark and AmericanaFest in Nashville. Danni's album 'Mockingbird Lane' was nominated AMAUK 'UK Album of the Year 2017.
Danni's success continued into 2018 when she was nominated as AMAUK 'UK Artist of the Year 2018.' Danni was also nominated to the short-list of just five artists for 'Best Country/Folk Act' for the 2018 Unsigned Music Awards. 2018 also saw an official showcase at the Folk Alliance in Kansas, an invite supporting The Secret Sisters on their UK and Ireland tour in March.

Danni's third album The Melted Morning was recorded and produced in Nashville by Jordan Brooke Hamlin (Indigo Girls, Lucy Wainwright Roche) in May 2018 and was released to critical acclaim early 2019 and is one of my top albums of 2019. Hear Your Voice has been nominated for an AMAUK song of the year award - watch this space.

It's said that Danni's vibrant, spell binding performances are guaranteed to melt your heart into the soles of your cowboy boots. And that her passionate delivery, captivating velvet voice and charmingly engaging between-song banter compel you to fall under her spell.

Georgia and the Vintage Youth

Georgia Crandon is a 23 year old from Essex with a big voice and big blonde hair to match - her retro jazz/swing style of music is both vintage and fresh. Georgia is another of a new breed of vibrant singer/songwriters that I've enjoyed in 2019. Georgia is accompanied by muso friends called 'The Vintage Youth' and she will be appearing as a trio with percussion and Saxophone. Taking influence from the likes of Paloma Faith, Amy Winehouse, Billie Holiday & Louis Prima, Georgia's contagious melodies and reflective lyrics won't fail to have your feet tapping along.

Georgia grew up listening to soul, Motown and reggae and these influences come through strongly in her music. Formerly into musical theatre Georgia gave all that up when she realised she was less interested in the dance routines and more interested in the Ray Charles tunes they were dancing to. That's when she started gigging and writing her own songs.

Since then she's released three EP's, which have all have had airplay on BBC Radio 2, BBC Introducing and local BBC Radio shows in Essex, Cambridgeshire, Suffolk, Norfolk and Kent, plus online radio stations. Her first EP 'The Girl' featured Dave Swift (Jools Holland R&B Orchestra) on bass and her second EP 'El Reco' featured some toasting from Neville Staple (The Specials). Now, her latest EP 'Go Funk Yourself' was produced by Mo Pleasure (Earth, Wind & Fire) and features John Waugh on saxophone (The 1975) which, she says "ain't too bad for a Loughton girl!"

2019 saw Georgia & the Vintage Youth perform to thousands of fans across the UK in a massive 50 date theatre tour as a support band to Collabro culminating with a performance in front of a sell out audience at The Royal Albert Hall. Major festival appearances include The Isle of Wight, Cambridge Club and Cornbury. Not forgetting headline slots at the Green Note in Camden and the Essex Arms in Brentwood and the Brentwood Festival. .

Daren Francis

I first heard Essex lad Daren Francis busking in Billericay High Street last year. Suitably impressed, I made a donation and picked up his card thinking it would be good to have him play at my GITG. Little did I know that Daren has 25 years' experience of playing at weddings and corporate events. With a wide repertoire, from 1950s classics to modern chart hits and a set list including Classic UK/American Rock/Country and some blues thrown in for good measure, he is sure to appeal to all generations and will be the perfect start to our afternoon's proceedings.
