Event Type

Genre : Music - Folk/blues/world

Description

terrace cred. presents:
a double bill with a Scots twist - two of last year's favourites together on one night.
One of Scotland's most acclaimed pairings, Iona MacDonald and Paul Tasker excel in delivering songs which are intimate and warm, MacDonald's honeyed voice complemented Tasker's superb picking skills. Often compared to the likes of Sandy Denny era Fairport Convention along with other luminaries from that era, Americana UK describing them as our version of Gillian Welch and David Rawlings after a sold out headline show at Glasgow's Celtic Connections festival in 2018. The duo have been playing together for 15 years, combining harmony vocals, guitars and clawhammer banjo, releasing their fourth album to widespread acclaim in November 2019. They established their reputation through the UK and Central Europe, touring on their own and as members of Robert Fisher's 'Willard Grant Conspiracy, have swapped songs and jammed with E-Street band member Eddie Mannion and Vinnie Lopez, and shared stages with bands from The Mavericks to Televison.

Although Neil Bob Herd may be familiar as guitarist / vocalist with Alt. bluegrassers The Coal Porters, he also steps out as a solo act, performing original material in the roots/ Americana vein,

Having played in a selection of Scottish outfits, came to London and hooked up with various acts on the busking / alternative cabaret scene, spent a few years as Scots Billy Bragg spanning music & cabaret / comedy circuits - this led to musical adventures such as co-ordinating 25 Louie-Louie playing guitarists for comic & provocateur Mark Thomas, developing a steel guitar habit - precipitating a memorable summer spent in the Hank Williams bio-musical Pills Thrills & Backaches (Hank became Count Arthur Strong...) a brief tenure followed in suit-rockers Avalanche (Marti Pellow meets the Bad Seeds..) Then relented and formed a new outfit The Trophy Husbands, playing proper twanging country music. This led to being co-opted into Sid Griffin's Western Electric and The Coal Porters... so we're back at the top.
