A very intimate appearance in one of the coolest little bars in Nottingham.
THEY CALLED HIM ZONE combines sultry electronica with chewed-up, modulated guitars; evoking rain-drenched, neon-daubed streets, proscribed chemicals, and black-clad malcontents wearing mirror shades after dark. And it's always dark where they come from
Based in Bradford, UK the core of the group is Mik Davis (vocals, guitar, programming) and Steve Maloney (guitar, vocals, programming).
Their approach combines a love of post-punk abrasiveness and electronic experimentation with a pop sensibility, albeit one at the darker end of the spectrum.
A debut EP - Miami - appeared in 2016. A second - Crow Swan Wolf - was released the following year, picking up global airplay among darkwave and electro rock aficionados. Three singles - 'Death Drive', 'I Want Love', and a cover of The Stooges' classic 'I Wanna Be Your Dog' followed, the last coming out at the butt-end of the last decade. Their debut album is set to appear in 2020.
CHAOS BLEAK take inspiration from the early post-punk sound, before The Sisters became the template. What would Play Dead sound like if they formed in 2019?
