High Wycombe, April 2019. GEPOS Promotions is at the final day of the marvellous Ramblin' Roots Revue and waiting to see The Goat Roper Rodeo Band, who were to play Great Easton later that year. The line-up for the day reveals that someone called Amber Cross is on stage immediately before the Welsh band and we decide we might as well go along. And so, with no expectations whatsoever, we take up our place near the front as Amber and another guitarist walk on stage and sit down in front of the microphones. Oh dear, we think. This is going to be a long 45 minutes! But we couldn't have been more wrong.
From the very first moments we are transfixed as Amber and husband James conjour songs that instantly transport us to a rugged rural Americana landscape; the rawness of her voice and their perfectly synced guitar work producing a quite incredible set that lasted long in the memory.
"Every once in a while, music comes along that you just know instantly that you are going to like. Amber's melodies are more than complimented by thoughtful, interesting and honest lyrics, along with fine, understated musicianship that proves the old adage that 'less is more', wrote Duncan Warwick of Country Music People Magazine, UK. The result is a set of superbly crafted, well-rounded, addictive songs that stay with you long after the last notes have ended and make you hungry for more."
Amber's self-released 2017 album Savage on the Downhill produced many hugely positive reviews and her follow up album is due for release in 2020. We're delighted that this musician from San Luis Obispo, California, will be coming to Leicestershire and we very much hope you'll join us for what promises to be a special evening.
