Composer, musician, painter Tim Whitehead leads a variety of projects, and we are happy to have his quartet with us. From his work with Loose Tubes in the s through his many CD releases, Tim has broken new ground. In 2009 he was the first ever musician Artist in Residence at Tate Britain. During the residency he wrote 'Colour Beginnings', a series of compositions written from transcribed improvisations performed in front of and in response to a selection of JMW Turner's watercolour sketches. Awards and nominations for awards came quickly.
Jonathan Gee is one the most prolific and imaginative composer-pianists operating today. Aside from his own bands he has also worked closely with Bobby Wellins, Claire Martin and Tim Whitehead, Pharoah Sanders, Mark Murphy and Art Farmer. With Tony Kofi he co-founded the Monk Liberation Front, whose legendary performances of the complete Thelonious Monk catalogue have led to award-winning recordings.
Andy Hamill plays double bass, bass guitar and chromatic harmonica. He. Andy has also worked with 4 Hero, Nitin Sawhnie, Lou Rhodes, Natasha Atlas, Beth Rowley, Cara Dillon, Tracey Thorn, Kylie Minogue, and many others. He has produced 2 albums with his wife, singer-songwriter Rebecca Hollweg - 'June Babies' and 'Orange Roses' (currently being played on BBC radio 2).
Tom Hooper began playing professionally at age 14, performing with local band's and doing summer season pit work. He gained a degree in jazz performance from the Royal Academy of Music. Tom embarked on a professional career that has taken him all over the world performing and recording with many artists including; Grace Jones, Simple Minds, Skye (singer with Morcheeba) , John Dankworth OBE, Christian Garrick, Kinobe, Stroke, Omar, The Kairos Ensemble, Ben Earle. Tom also worked with producers; Ivor Guest (Oscar winning documentary-'Taxi to the darkside' /Grace Jones), Jimmy Hogarth (James Blunt, KT Tunstall, Suzanne Vega) and Matt Butler (Paul McCartney / Freelance).
