QOW TRIO is a trio of diverse players who've come together, united by a love of the tradition, to explore the freedom that opens up within the three-way format pioneered by the great Sonny Rollins in his landmark recordings.
Originally operating under the title SONNYMOON FOR THREE as a tribute to Newk, they found themselves drawn to explore the rich tradition of the tenor trio and incorporate influences from everyone from Lester Young to Joe Henderson to Dewey Redman to Tubby Hayes to Seamus Blake to create a show that's both a thrilling exploration of the past and an exciting vision of the future
Firebrand young sax star RILEY STONE LONERGAN is a regular at Ronnie Scott's and one of the most exciting players on the London scene. Drum legend SPIKE WELLS has enjoyed an astonishing career playing with everyone from Dexter Gordon to Stan Getz - yes, really - and enjoying a close association with British tenor legends Tubby Hayes and Bobby Wellins. Local bassist and bandleader EDDIE MYER is a familiar figure on the Brighton scene. Together they present a programme of bop, blues and ballads, rooted in melody. Expect top quality jazz with plenty of spontaneous interplay, hot soloing and pure hard driving swing from this exciting trio.
