Head to head over the old Couriers classics, with driving virtuosic rhythmic support. Expect such favourites as the original arrangements of 'Cheek To Cheek', 'Love Walked In' and 'The Serpent', with stories and comments from the two front men. Groovy!
Who better to emulate the Jazz Couriers than Simon Spillett and Peter Long! The Couriers were fronted by Tubby Hayes and Ronnie Scott.
Simon Spillett is described by the late Humphrey Lyttelton as "formidable," and is a British jazz saxophonist who leads his own quartet and big band. He has won several awards, including the tenor saxophone category of the British Jazz Awards (2011), Jazz Journal magazine's Critic's Choice CD of the Year (2009) Rising Star in the BBC Jazz Awards (2007) and Services to British Jazz in the 2016 British Jazz Awards.
Over the last couple of years, Pete Long's career has divided into three distinct streams- as an educator, working in masterclasses and as soloist with young musicians. In conjunction with this work, Pete has helped develop a new series of student woodwind instruments with a leading UK Manufacturer. As a jazz soloist, Pete has appeared with resident trios in the provinces, and has often been caught at Ronnie Scott's, in London's West End. It is however, as a bandleader and orchestrator that Pete spends most of his time currently, with work being divided between directing the Big Band at Ronnie Scott's, and putting together bands of all sizes and styles for clients on a bespoke basis.
Chris Ingham plays piano mostly and sings occasionally. He formed his jazz quartet in 2013 and has led over 150 performances of his Hoagy Carmichael, Dudley Moore and Stan Getz repertoire projects all over the UK. He is a TV composer (Wartime Crime, How The Beatles Changed The World), a record producer (Ruthie Henshall, Joanna Eden), author (Rough Guides to The Beatles and Frank Sinatra) and musical director/pianist/MC of film song repertory quintet Jazz At The Movies and Rebop, a modern jazz repertory sextet.
Alec Dankworth is an award-winning jazz bassist and composer who, in addition to leading several groups of his own, has worked with an amazing list of artists including Van Morrison, Stephanne Grappelli, Abdullah Ibrahim, and The Dave Brubeck Quartet. He is known for his energetic stage presence, versatility of style and some of the most imaginative bass solos around! "elegant stability, big sound, sure beat, and thoughtful spontaneity" - John Fordham, Guardian
George's playing and recording credits include famously often appearing at Fleece Jazz, as well as work with Dame Shirley Bassey, Grammy Award Winner Jack Jones, Marc Almond, Mica Paris, Ruthie Henshall and Kym Mazelle.
