Blue Orchids

Event Type

Genre : Music - General

Description

Blue Orchids, as a post punk psychedelic adjunct to Fall -world are well established in the music enthusiast's consciousness, and yes, Martin Bramah was a founding father of The Fall, and as expressed recently might have reasonable grounds to even call himself The Fall, well, why not...but then he's not daft.

Perhaps people could do with reconnecting with Martin's oeuvre a little more deeply than obsessing over the ex Fall schtick, specially what with the recent albums being a succession of magik pop psych masterpieces choc stock (oh yes) with fabulous gems full of rich, resonant sounds and stinging, esoteric lyrics.

Recently we've enjoyed what Martin Bramah calls, 'the first covers concept album' the centrepiece of which is, 'a pivotal anomaly', an unseen Mark E Smith lyric from 1977, which Bramah has only now set to music. 'The Magical Record Of Blue Orchids' on Tiny Global Productions hs wonderful interpretations of nuggets from The Penny Saints, The Aardvarks, The Growlers', Crystal Stilts etc.

And 2018's 'Righteous Harmony Fist' was a total triumph, one of them stick to the turntable type records you used to know and love in the seventies and eighties. And the accompanying live shows were remarkable. A definite air of the 'wow man we're not worthy' was rife amidst the awestruck punters in the Dublin Castle last time Bramah and Co. hit Parkway, as they shook the embers of harmonic feedback off their clothing and made off into the night. That was a superb Blue Orchids show. Buy the records, attend the gigs, appreciate the illusive magic of Blue Orchids. A very special group.

With Green Embers - A soulful indie rock of an Elbow bent [bent Elbow?] with widescreen alt atmospherics, hence Ms Lauren Laverne is all over em like a rash (well, she likes 'em muchly).

Oldfield Youth Club - Formed in Autumn 2018 OYC is made up of 3/4 of critically acclaimed 1980's pop group The Last Party (2 Peel Sessions & Melody Maker Single of the Week with their debut single 'Mr Hurst'). Featuring Simon Rivers (Bitter Springs)...

This is nicely gnarly edgy pop fare with a knowing nod back to the independent eighties thru glam rock guitars and post punk sensibilities with a warm lived in loucheness that envelops you most pleasingly.

Dublin Castle Profile Pic

Description

The Dublin Castle is a legendary pub and music venue located 2 minutes away from Camden Town tube station. It has been run by the same family for over 28 years and features 4 live bands every night as well as a great selection of beers, ciders and wines.

There are DJs after the bands on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and a fabulous jukebox in the front bar if you’re after a more relaxed atmosphere.

But what is it that makes the Dublin Castle the long-standing centre of the indie rock universe? Is it because it’s Madness’ birthplace? Because its stage has been graced by everyone from Blur, through Coldplay, Supergrass, The Killers, The Arctic Monkeys, Billy Bragg, etc? Is it because it was no surprise to see Amy Winehouse behind the bar serving costumers? Or Suggs? (who, mind you, tended to ignore costumers and serve himself) Or is it because far from being just another Camden venue it has established itself as an indie rock institution? The answer is that it’s not only because of its musical heritage that people come to the Dublin Castle, it’s because whilst you enjoy a pint, play some tunes on the jukebox, check out the live bands, get your dancing shoes on for our DJs, chat to our friendly staff or even stage-invade a little, you’re inadvertently being part of this movement the Dublin Castle leads, this cultural legacy. Expect no castle battlements. Just pure rock and roll royalty.
