Jenny Biddle

Event Type

Genre : Music - Folk/blues/world

Description

Originally from Sydney, Australia but now living in Scotland we are thrilled to have Jenny Biddle with us at Claypath Deli.

It has been said that if Tracy Chapman married Joni Mitchell and then had a saucy love affair with Ani Di-Franco, you'd end up with Jenny Biddle. Jennie describes her sound as a blend of indie-folk with a twist of blues and can apparently intertwine bass notes, percussion and melody so seamlessly that at times it's hard to believe there is only one person on stage so maybe a mix of Tracy, Joni and Ani is not a bad musical description.

Furthermore, much like Joni Mitchell, there is a sophistication to Jenny's lyrics that touch on life's universal trials and tribulations such as love, loss, hopes and fears. Using her skill as a songwriter Jenny is not afraid to delve into the darker side of the human condition either. She manages to confront issues such as sexuality, depression and eating disorders with a sensitivity borne out of lived experience.

Jenny released her debut album 'Chest of Drawers' in 2009 and at the time was described by prominent Australian radio personality, music journalist and blogger Dom Alessio as 'Beautiful, no-nonsense folk music with one of those great emotive voices that echoes just a touch of world-worn huskiness'.

Her unexpected comical between-song interjections prompted Australian Stage to describe Jenny live performance thus - 'Banter which is honest, direct, personal, affectionate, funny and utterly engaging, she has that peculiar knack for making a large space feel like a lounge room'.

Not only does Jenny build acoustic guitars, she has six albums under her belt, an iTunes chart-topping single and in 2013 did a stint at Macquarie University in Australia lecturing about song-writing, performing and advanced guitar techniques.

It's an impressive CV and all things considered, should make for a very interesting late summer evening's entertainment.
