The Spice of Life is a Soho landmark, historic music venue and is in the heart of London's West End.

Renowned for having a great live sound The Spice of Life and Substance have worked together for over 10 years to bring the very best new music to the heart of the capital.

We are ready to present a show at the Spice of Life with social distancing in place. We have come up with a format and lots of procedures we think will work and be safe for all.

It involves selling blocks of tickets as everyone would be allotted a table. The tables will be sold in groups of 2's, 4's and 6's and can only be booked online. This allows you to book in advance as a couple or a group of friends. We have reduced our capacity in order to keep everyone safe and seating will be limited. We are taking payment on the door but we strongly urge you to book in advance as we won?t be able to guarantee you a seat. The link is included in this event and is also below.

Be prepared to use hand sanitiser on arrival, and on leaving and returning to the room. You are more than welcome to wear facials coverings, masks or bandanas...

Malcolm MacWatt
As founding member of emerging London country band The Glass Mountains, Scottish musician Malcolm MacWatt is already gaining recognition for his Americana-infused songwriting.

While a deep respect for country and bluegrass is evident in his songs and guitar playing, as a solo performer Malcolm freely shows his British folk roots citing John Martyn and Dick Gaughan as major influences. Age 12 and just getting into the guitar he first heard Johnny Cash At San Quentin and was immediately hooked into country music. A Transatlantic Records promo album featuring Pentangle and Fairport Convention introduced the idea that folk, rock, blues and jazz could be fused together.

A self-confessed ?guitar geek? he moved to London in 2010 to study guitar-making and instrument repair with some of the UK?s top luthiers. He also plays dobro and fiddle.

Description

A pub and music bar on the perimeter of Cambridge Circus, at the corner of Romilly Street and Moor Street. First licensed in 1686 as the George, the current building dates from 1898 and the current name from 1986. (One of the old names, Cantons, can be seen being held by one of the gargoyles on the top of the building).

Famous in the 1960s and 70s for folk music and then punk, latterly it has become a jazz venue and home to SpiceJazz club. Up to 5 real ales from the McMullen range on offer and free admission to the main bar but you may have to pay for some music gigs in the basement.

Upstairs at the Spice is for drinks, eats and good times. Enjoy Great British classics with special seasonal dishes prepared daily by our chefs.
