Stanley Halls was built by William Stanley, a self-made local businessman, inventor, engineer, architect, philanthropist, and writer.
Hardly used for years, it is now entering a new period of growth and expansion. Our aim is to fill the building with a community of artists across a wide variety of different creative disciplines, traditional and modern, both craft-based and cutting edge.
Our performance schedule will be about promoting the very best emerging artists across all performance forms.
Background:
Stanley Halls is run by Stanley People's Initiative, a charity set up by local people to save the building from permanent closure. They took over responsibility for running Stanley Halls in 2015, when they signed a 35-year lease with Croydon Council.
They get no regular grant funding and depend upon income from events and hires to keep the building open. Day to day operations depend on a small staff team, supported by volunteers.
Please consider making a donation to support our work.
