Description

'Abandon me to this imagery with words that shoot the moon...'

Composer, acoustic guitarist and singer Chris Brown created hazeyjane as the vehicle for the musical expression of his own original songs and adaptations of selected pieces of poetry.

Chris's ambient acoustic guitar style deploys an array of open tunings and capos to create exquisite guitar figures and motifs, giving the songs a distinctively airy, graceful and spacious quality. His voice has often been compared to that of David Sylvian.

Debut album ONE (2016) was recorded and mastered by Ash Tu-kay of Tu-kay Records in Stoke Bruerne, with reviewers writing of 'dense multi-layered arrangements...gorgeous guitar figures' and songs that 'create a dreamy atmosphere' with 'a strong poetic bent'.
hazeyjane's songs are enriched sonically and rhythmically by the legato singing sound of Kevin T Ward's fretless bass, as well as the subtle textures of master percussionist David 'Hopi' Hopkins.

A five-track live EP, Kanré, was launched at Folk on the Pier in Cromer in May 2017 when hazeyjane played in trio format for the first time in the UK.

More recently, vocalist Corinne Lucy and pianist Anna Plaminiak have joined the line-up, to give greater harmonic detail to the songscapes. As a result, the band has now developed a more collaborative approach to songwriting, composition and arrangement as evinced by their more recent material.

Most rewarding to a listening and discerning audience, hazeyjane aim to produce mellow and melodic music, intense and intimate, dreamy and dynamic, relaxing and hauntingly atmospheric. They have played concerts all over the UK, including The Stables in Wavendon, Zeffirelli's jazz bar restaurant in Ambleside, and Eyemouth Hippodrome (Scotland) as well as having appeared at numerous arts centres, libraries, churches, restaurants, folk and other music clubs and festivals.

The band is about to release their second album, Anima Rising. In addition to its quintet of members, this will include several special guest contributions and will reflect entirely the current essence and ethos of the band and capture what one recent commentator described as its 'luscious, full, hypnotic sound'.

'I loved hazeyjane's E.P. Kanre and can't wait to hear the new album. Do check this band out. It's lovely, beautifully crafted music.' ? Dave Pegg, Fairport Convention

'...absolutely love it. Beautiful. From the very first notes, it brought to mind one of my all time favourite albums, Hejira by Joni Mitchell. I couldn't pay it a better compliment than that.' ? Ric Sanders, Fairport Convention

'...lovely, lovely stuff!' ? Gary Clark, Danny Wilson
