Description

Paris or London? The decision was settled on a shaky proposition: to run a cabaret in the northern district of Pigalle, a stone?s throw away from the Moulin Rouge.

Christopher Willatt and Lewis Lazar arrived in Paris with the objective of writing songs together (as they had the habit of doing apart in Edinburgh and New York) while juggling a career as artistic directors of a mysterious derelict club.

The fact that the Cabaret, caught in litigation, closed down within a month of their arrival was a first twist of fate out of many to come. The second was meeting Julia Johansen through the grace of a famed Tarot card reader (but more on that later)

With more time on their hands at the expense of less money, the focus became writing songs and making the most out of the tumble weed night life that friendship could buy speckled with go go dancers, film makers, painters and jazz musicians.

Through this kaleidoscope of characters and experiences, a style of songs began to evolve that attracted their first collaborators.

First came the mysterious Julia from Finland who became the band?s drummer, songwriter and vocal harmony singer and next: Jerome Goldet who provided his expertise on bass, double bass and a studio to evolve their recorded sound.

At their first concert in a pool bar on the island of Embiez they received an offer to work with the recently relaunched Paris based record label ?Télé Music? through whom they released their first songs: ?Spotlight? ´Always? and ´I?m You?.

Off the strength of these releases New York independent label 22twenty offered a further record deal which evolved in to their debut EPs ?Paris I? & ´Paris II? envisioned as the soundtrack to parallel visions of their adopted hometown in the future.

Tours soon followed in the UK, Germany, Holland and Spain all brought to a halt with the Covid crises.

Time, again, was used as an ally as the band spent the confinement huddled in a studio in a converted carpet factory on the island of Hydra in Greece to begin recording their debut album.

The much anticipated debut album is due later in 2021.
