A combination of Angeline Morrison and Nick Duffy,
WE ARE MUFFY
From somewhere wild and strange in Cornwall come the idiosyncratic folk sounds of We Are Muffy, the happy alliance of NIck Duffy (The Lilac Time) and Angeline Morrison (The Mighty Sceptres, The Ambassadors of Sorrow). With influences including the Incredible String Band, Tyrannosaurus Rex, Sam Cooke, Max Romeo and Shirley & Dolly Collins weaving through their music, We Are Muffy spin poetic narratives of remembered and imagined pasts. Their album 'The Charcoal Pool' (Tapete Records, 2018) explores the peculiarities of memory and identity. Their distinctive strain of folk music combines vocal harmonies with unexpected instrumentation (lyre, music box, bottle tops), in amongst the expected (banjo, autoharp, double bass). We Are Muffy have been having a busy lockdown, pursuing their solo careers online while simultaneously adding to the We Are Muffy songbook. They are ready to bring that songbook to Rosslyn Court, to sing to a real audience for the first time in a long while.
"Imagine the good bits of Belle and Sebastian with all the drums and electrically powered stuff removed and replaced by thumb pianos". (PopMatters).
"We Are Muffy ably demonstrate how easy and natural it can be for homespun, charmingly ramshackle indie pop to elide with authentically-flavored (and even quite dark and haunting) English folk". (The Key/WXPN)
"If you?re looking for something different, a little unorthodox perhaps, with a quirky sense of humour, reflective moods and traditional in spirit then look no further. Trad folk that skips past time and place has a melancholy taste". (Americana UK)
