Making a welcome return to the Herne Hill Music Festival The Friends` Musick chamber choir will present 'Never Weather-Beaten Saile', a concert to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the 1620 sailing of the Pilgrim Fathers in the Mayflower. They will tell the story in words and music, of that fateful 66-days` voyage across the Atlantic.
Two members of the group are descended from passengers on board the Mayflower. One was the chief Elder of the Pilgrim Fathers, the other a young manservant, whereby hangs a tale.
Founded in 1990, The Friends` Musick have performed extensively around south and south-east England in venues such as historic houses, museums, churches, cathedrals and festivals, mostly in period costume.
For their Mayflower concert, the Friends` Musick will perform in 'Puritan' costume."
