Fizzle Presents: New Works by Georgia Denham, Aaron Diaz and Anna Palmer

Written and developed with a new Birmingham collective of Composer-Performer-Improvisers, these 3 new works will be premiered at GAP Arts? upstairs Cafe.

Ttakun-er (Aaron Diaz)

The Basque percussion instrument of the Txalaparta is played consecutively by two performers, striking its boards one after the other in an improvised sequence.

?Ttakun? is an onomatopoeic word in the Basque language, referring to the two strokes each performer typically makes.

?Ttakun-er? is an Hispanicised verb that describes the action of a consistant, rolling rhythm that occurs when the two players are locked in together. ?Ttakun, ttakun, ttakun, ttakun?..?

This piece interprets the rhythmic structures and antiphonal nature of Txalaparta playing, striving towards unity from two individual perspectives, for three duos of improvising musicians.

wave on waves/cliffside erosion (Georgia Denham)

Drawn to the sea, I swim with an awareness that every wave enjoyed is a scratch on the magnificent cliff that guides us through the water. In a summer of swimming, I?ve often become disoriented in the water because of this changing, eroding landscape; it scarily isn?t the resolute pillar I expect it to be.

There is a juxtaposition of beauty, indulgence and loss here; strange colliding feelings that tinge so much of the climate crisis we live in. Each day, there are signs that this ocean is dying and yet still, I return to her comfort ? she has given me so much.

From the Book of Palms (Anna Palmer)
?From the Book of Palms? is a collection of poems, whims and sonic layers that express something for someone at some place in time.
