Bossaphonik got off to a kickin? restart in September and we have a superb double bill of live world-folk dancefloor sounds to look forward to on Friday 15th October.

Solana bring with them a wealth of original compositions rooted in the folk traditions of all corners of Europe, fused with a modal jazz sensibility and deeply groovy rhythms. They are a virtuosic five piece with a line up of flute/whistle/accordion, violin, guitar, double bass, drums and percussion, creating a rich and inventive sonic tapestry. Irish, English, Balkan and Hispanic folk traditions are deeply respected, complemented alongside the band?s soaring originality that transcends the boundaries of any one style. They take their music towards something new and bold beyond classic folk conventions. Solana were originally formed in 2012 in Valencia, Spain and have now found a home in Bristol?s contemporary folk scene, their vast array of knowledge is offered up with an impressive instrumental proficiency placing them among the top acts of the UK folk and world music scenes. They are currently recording their third studio LP entitled ?Mirage? with long-time producer Tom Excell (Nubiyan Twist/Onipa). We can look forward to a sneak preview of it alongside their favourites.

Supporting Solana at this Bossaphonik double-bill event is the rhumba-reggae of Globo Collective. Rooted in Mediterranean culture, the band are led by Solana drummer Elio Arauz de Marcos backed by members of Solana for this gig who are long-time collaborators in a fluid line up. This band exudes diverse high energy styles and rhythms coupled with socially conscious and humorous lyrics that reliably get people dancing. Elio writes infectious and catchy songs in his native languages Valencian and Spanish as well as English and some other languages he has picked up on the road.
