Born and raised in Cambridgeshire, Chris Fox cut his teeth playing for pints in local drinking establishments along the river Great Ouse in 2014. Fast forward to an award-winning singer songwriter who has played a variety of stages from Dorset to The Western Isles, and from intimate 10-seater venues to a packed out set in the Den at Cambridge Folk Festival 2019.
Marking rapid progress through the UK folk and roots scene with his songwriting, vocals and mastery of the loop pedal, he won the Lichfield Folk Festival song writing competition in 2019. Genre-defying and hard to pigeonhole, his perceptive lyrics reflect overlooked stories in everyday life. He underpins his lyrics with a variety of musical styles ranging the roots lexicon of folk, blues, country and Americana. A modern-day troubadour, he?s released three EPs and one studio album to wide acclaim.
Now performing headline shows in his own right, Chris has also supported some of folk?s finest; Peter Knight?s Gigspanner, Trials of Cato, Brookes Williams, Ange Hardy, Granny's Attic, Boo Hewerdine, Jim Moray and Sean Lakeman & Katherine Roberts to name a few, and achieved his first international booking to play Costa Del Folk in 2022
?Tip for 2020. Poised to break through in 2020 ....Chris Fox could well conjure something special in the future? RnR magazine, Jan/Feb 2020
?Chris Fox is the best singer songwriter I have heard in a long time?. Steve Jackson BBC Radio Cambridgeshire, Dec 2019
?Next up was Cambridge singer/songwriter Chris Fox, fresh from his performance at the Cambridge Folk Festival and WOW WOW this young man has definitely got to be on his way to be a major star on the International club/festival scene. The proof was not only his spellbinding set but the queue for his CDs after the show. Chris is definitely an artist to return to our club next year?. Live review by Birch and Stock Folk Club, Kidderminster 2019
?Chris Fox may be a new name for a lot of people but I don't think it will stay that way for long. Hard to pin down his music ranges across folk, certainly, but with blues, Americana and and rock 'n? roll influences. With very accessible songs about people who never quite get the breaks in life, he sparkles on stage. This was a great set. His album 'From the Shadows' is superb.? Tony Birch, FATEA at Purbeck Valley Folk Festival 2019
?At Cambridge Folk Club we?re often approached by new, local talent, but from the first time that Chris came to play for us, we realised he had that undefinable something which set him apart. Whether it?s his self-penned work, his thoughtful interpretations of songs from the tradition, or his skilled, ambitious guitar work, each time we?ve heard him, we?ve always appreciated Chris? musicianship. It has been a pleasure to see him climbing the ladder of folk success - carry on up, Chris!? Cambridge Folk Club 2019
?A fresh new talent on the Cambridge scene. This guy is relentless; he just keeps writing songs and they are all great!? Sue Marchant, BBC Radio Cambridgeshire/Ely Folk Festival 2018
