Description

Sister Chain & Brother John

Looking like Victorian gentlefolk, wielding a bass guitar and a circus drum,
Sister Chain and Brother John sing tales of the wicked set and the lovelorn, of
moonage daydreams and erotic nightmares beyond any measure, celebrating the musical stories of London club cads and tipsy country ghosts, misled heiresses, feverish painters, Vegas vagabonds and deranged dominas in a show that can best be described as parlour punk, or electric music-hall.

Since their fateful meeting in a mysterious Berlin bookshop on Halloween 2004, the couple have performed in churches, on boats, on street corners and in gambling houses as well as the usual nightclubs, festivals and concert halls.
They have toured Scandinavia, the UK, continental Europe and the US,
supported Lene Lovich, Jowe Head and members of The Cure, and released
several vinyl babies and a couple of human ones into the light of the world.

Slate Islands

Slate Islands singer Polly MacLean was conceived in Poland, born in Edinburgh and brought up on a small island off the coast of Argyll. At the age of fifteen, she washed up like driftwood on the lower reaches of London - where she inexplicably remained for years, pining for the hills.
Having now escaped to Sheffield, Polly makes her Café 9 debut with a rare solo appearance. Her spellbinding songs ?grow in the gaps between places: the country and the city, Scotland and England, reality and imagination?. Expect windswept yearning, gallows humour, and a siren voice that leads you somewhere you may never come back from.
