Lynn Ruth Miller: A Celebration Evening At The Greys Event Title Pic

Description

terrace cred. is very proud to present:
an evening in memory of a very dear friend to many of us - Lynn Ruth Miller.
A stack of performers offering to celebrate a very unique person and in the finest possible way, including:
Earl Okin - Andy Roberts - Glen Richardson - Steve Gifford - Nik Coppin - Carol Cleveland...
Tonight's show will be a fund raiser for St Joseph's Hospice in Hackney, who looked after Lynn Ruth in her final weeks.
Raconteuse / stand up / burlesque / author / podcaster / blogger / self-styled 'oldest working female comedian' / all round entertainer and scholar...
Lynn Ruth passed away earlier this year aged 87, working right up until shortly before suddenly taken ill and succumbing to galloping oesophageal cancer. If you ever met her, you'd've been perpetually touched by the mightiness of the presence of this tiny woman. She could be very funny. She could bring you to tears with her tales. She could be very rude. You could not ignore Lynn Ruth Miller.
From Toledo, Ohio, Lynn Ruth settled in Pacifica by San Francisco, California and, more recently, Brighton and London but travelled the world performing after deciding, at the age of 70, to take to the stage and become a comedian ('I didn't want to peak too early...').
Appearing on 'America's Got Talent' and 'Britain's Got Talent', hosting a California TV show, a Brighton Latest TV Show, winning Awards in the USA and UK, Brighton and Edinburgh Fringe, there seemed to be no end to what she took on and wowed audiences with (well, Simon Cowell professed not to be amused, but...).
Lynnie Root' played one of her final gigs at The Greys, a tiny venue she loved, in june, a short notice preview of the new show she had developed. We loved her to bits and it's fitting that we put together this celebration tribute here to this amazing woman.
Tonight, we've an assembly of performers, with an emphasis on the musical elements of what she got up to
(complementing Nik Coppin's Comedy Tribute at The Caroline Of Brunswick on sun 7 november), from players who knew Lynn Ruth and were under her spell.

Earl Okin - from Portobello Road, enticed down to the seaside for the occasion. Dapper dressed, Jazz / Bossa Nova writer / performer and 78 rpm aficionado - we first saw him open for Paul McCartney & Wings on tour in 1979 (last seen trading dirty jokes with Lynn Ruth on the South Bank, outside the RFH... ).

Andy Roberts - from The Liverpool Scene / Scaffold / Roger McGough / Bonzos / Hank Wangford / Plainsong / (surrogate) Pink Floyd 'The Wall' tour / Roy Harper / 'Save The Greys' Campaign... a true local, global legend and a truly decent chap.

Glen Richardson - from The Brighton Beach Boys / Gus & Glen / The Ornate Johnsons / the Human Jukebox adored across the town and beyond, even... Glen has a tale of recording a keyboard track for Ms Miller that proved to be a, um, somewhat unusual task.

Steve Gifford - folk / roots guitar, now living in Ramsgate, with a calendarful of tourdates that stretches across the highways and byways of the nation. Steve was drawn into Lynn Ruth's orbit clutching his guitar and working out songs and arrangements for the show that never quite got off the ground. He has the privilege of performing at her last dates (including a delightful video in the grounds of St Joseph's Hospice).

Nik Coppin - MC'ing and generally holding things together, Nik put Lynn Ruth on stage at venues across the UK and gets to wave g'bye...

Special Guest - Carol Cleveland, from Monty Python / movies and TV shows from Hammer horror / The Saint / The Avengers / comedies / sitcoms / dramas... and panto. Oh, yes she did... Carol trod the same stage as Lynn Ruth with double header one woman shows. Oh, yes she did...

There will be some of Lynn Ruth's books on sale, a raffle and, who knows, a massed sing song, knees up finale - if you're up for it...

We intend this to be as safe a possible, for artists, staff and audience and are restricting numbers. Please respect everyone around you. In the event the performance cannot take place, full refund will be made. Also, if you are unable to attend due to Covid circumstances, please let us know ahead of the show and we'll endeavour to sort something that suits.
