Join artists John Riddy and Guy Moreton in-conversation in the gallery lecture theatre, followed by a visit to the gallery to see the exhibition 'New Acquisitions 2011-21: Narrative, Figure and Place' and in particular their works included in this exhibition. John Riddy and Guy Moreton will discuss their approaches using photography, and the wider cultural and art historical context in which their photographic works are made.

John Riddy is one of the most distinctive voices in British contemporary photography. He has consistently worked in series with a considered approach to describing the particularities of place and the urban landscape. His works are held in major public collections including Southampton City Art Gallery, Tate, The Victoria and Albert Museum, The Art Institute of Chicago, Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam and De Pont, Tilburg. John Riddy is represented by Frith Street Gallery, London.

Guy Moreton's photographic work explores the complex relationship between landscape and thought, particularly through the writing of W G Sebald and Nan Shepherd, and in the topography and character of Ludwig Wittgenstein's thinking during his retreat to the remote west coast of Norway. Moreton's works are held in major public collections including Southampton City Art Gallery, Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery, the University of Southampton, and the Fondazione Prada Milan. Guy Moreton is Associate Professor of Photography and Visual Arts at Solent University, Southampton.

The talk will last approximately an hour, with the opportunity to explore the exhibition and talk to the artists afterwards. Please ensure you book in advance to avoid disappointment.
