Description

We are delighted to have an evening of Bluegrass, Folk and Americana featuring two of the UK's premier acts, namely Manchester's IZZIE WALSH and Oxford based AUTUMN SAINTS.

Saturday April 9, 2022 at Katie Fitzgerald's in Stourbridge

This will be a double headline show with both acts playing a full set.

Manchester based singer songwriter Izzie Walsh has a unique sound that blends country, bluegrass, folk and Americana. Described as ?So original and individual? by Bob Harris, Izzie Walsh has built an impressive organic fanbase over the last couple of years. Not only does she have two BCMA Awards and an Indie Week UK award under her belt, but Izzie is also a former BBC Introducing Artist of the Week and has even performed on ITV?s Cold Feet.

IZZIE WALSH has a vibrant touring history to date, with performances all across the UK and internationally. She has played sold out headline shows at venues such as Manchester?s Deaf Institute and London?s Slaughtered Lamb as well as co-headlining with the amazing Curse of Lono, and touring Australia with Buckle & Boots Festival. She is a festival regurlar and you?ll be sure to see her all over the festival line-ups again this year! Some of the highlights she has played to date include; Bluedot, The Long Road, Buckle & Boots, Wilderness, AmericanaFest UK and SummerTyne Americana Festival.

AUTUMN SAINTS are an Anglo-American quartet based in Oxford, UK.

The band's music has its roots planted firmly in the American South, with lead singer Britt Strickland bringing the soulful, weighty music history of his home state of North Carolina to the City of Dreaming Spires. The southern storytelling tradition made famous by the likes of Dylan and Johnny Cash is very much alive in the Saints' music, with tales of hurricanes sweeping through the Appalachian Mountains and encounters with the devil at the crossroads unraveling in each song.

The British influence in the band, though, is also unmistakable. The melodic, ethereal guitar lines that float and weave through the songs create the sort of atmospheric depth that British indie groups have always done so well. Both David Ireland (guitar) and Martin Gallagher(drums) bring their own musical influences to the mix, from the shuffling rhythms and counter-rhythms of groups like the Stone Roses to the twisting, choppy guitar licks of Wilko Johnson.

Nick Bennett adds his twangy rhythm guitar, keyboards, harmonica, lap steel and harmonies to our band.

Katie Fitzgeralds has built a reputation for live music and parties but it's about more than that its also about history and tradition.

Originally a private house the building is over 200 years old and has been a pub since the 1830 Beer Act.

In the 19th century it would have been home to foundry workers and boatmen and would have looked out across to the Stourbridge canal arm where Foster and Rastrick built the Stourbridge Lion the first steam locomotive to run on rails in the USA.

Originally known as the Golden Lion it later became known as the Stourbridge Lion and then in 2000 it
became our home and was renamed in honour of Trina's grandmother Katie Fitzgerald who was born in Cloyne County Cork.

Trina is related to Irelands most famous hurling player Christy Ring, a son of Cloyne and is also cousin of Donal ag Cusack , Irelands first openly gay sportsman.
