?Hugely enjoyable!? **** allaboutjazz.com ?Rabble Rouser? review
The Brass Funkeys are an 8-piece London-based Brass Band who draw on the traditions of New Orleans. Formed in 2011, they have played at major festivals including Glastonbury, Wilderness and the North Sea Jazz Festival as well as London venues including The O2 Brooklyn Bowl, Koko Camden, and Ronnie Scott?s.
Whether performing a powerful amplified stage show or as a totally mobile marching band, the Brass Funkeys bring together some of the most talented musicians in London in an eclectic live show bursting at the seams with ideas and infectious energy.
After the cancellation of dozens of live dates in 2020, The Brass Funkeys are not taking lockdown lying down, instead embarking on an ambitious project to release four EPs of new material over the course of the year.
?Live at Cambridge Junction? features their high-energy stage show while ?Crunch? showcases original material continuing their exploration of a new genre: #ThrashBrass.
Their latest EP release ?Ruin? explores pumping, heavy, brass-led covers from girlband to heavy metal, marking the Brass Funkeys out as a trailblazer in the new generation of UK Brass Bands, while still holding true to the New Orleans sound.
A pub and music bar on the perimeter of Cambridge Circus, at the corner of Romilly Street and Moor Street. First licensed in 1686 as the George, the current building dates from 1898 and the current name from 1986. (One of the old names, Cantons, can be seen being held by one of the gargoyles on the top of the building).
Famous in the 1960s and 70s for folk music and then punk, latterly it has become a jazz venue and home to SpiceJazz club. Up to 5 real ales from the McMullen range on offer and free admission to the main bar but you may have to pay for some music gigs in the basement.
Upstairs at the Spice is for drinks, eats and good times. Enjoy Great British classics with special seasonal dishes prepared daily by our chefs.
