Ben Smith and Jimmy Brewer met at an event organised by Joan Armatrading for acts she had chosen to support her on her 2015 tour. The original plan was to just write together, but they soon realised how well their playing styles and voices complemented each other and they started playing together after that inaugural gig with Joan Armatrading, in front of a thousand-strong crowd.

Since then, the duo has performed all over the UK, notably as the 2018 UK tour support act to both 10cc and Ralph McTell. Appearances at the UK Americana Music Association Showcase, AmericanaFest in Nashville, Cambridge Folk Festival and then Fairport?s Cropredy Convention in 2018, led to securing the prized Fairport Convention WinTour support in 2020, where they charmed audiences and won many new fans all across the UK.
Smith and Brewer create guitar-driven country-rock that?s dreamy and fiery, spontaneous and well-crafted. From beginning to end, Smith and Brewer exemplify originality and utilise their talents to make country music with a brain. They consistently deliver impressive performances; their harmonies, guitars, and percussion are all point perfect. This British pair is very reminiscent of the merging of two famous duos together, the Louvins and Everlys without sounding too much like either of the brother pairings. Blended together Ben and Jimmy's voices sound made for each other, soaring and guiding the music through all the ups and downs of these finely crafted songs. Upholding the highest standard in harmony-drenched cool-vibes country-rock, these dozen self-penned songs cover all the relationship issues from unrequited love to enduring passion and all the heartbreak in between.
Alan Cackett, Maverick Magazine

'On the home-grown front Ben Smith & Jimmy Brewer are two of the finest guitarists out there and did two great sets. The musical interplay between them is jaw-dropping and they were clearly having a blast as were their audience.'
Cambridge Folk Festival Reviews

I?m utterly beguiled by this duo?s charming blend of close harmonies and melodious songs. It?s an obvious, perhaps even rather tainted comparison to make, but they?re a sort of English Simon and Garfunkel ? without the relationship issues, hopefully.
A group of students filing out say, ?Well, that was really great?, and mean it. It was, really great.'

I loved getting to know Ben and Jimmy, it was a joy to see them perform every night on the Fairport 2020 Wintour, which ended just before Lockdown! The audiences loved them too and I?m very happy that we?ve got them coming to do a whole show for us at Folk in the Barn. Debs

This January series in the Barn, is to replace our popular 'Even Cosier' Series at the Black Robin, which is taking a break whilst packing tightly together in small cosy spaces is still less than sensible. The Kingston Barn with its high ceiling and barn doors will be a safer space to gather under the current conditions. Capacity will be reduced to the same capacity as we have in the Robin, but with far more personal space. It also means room for everyone in the Barn car park.

There won't be a bar, but there'll be tea and cake and maybe some non-alcoholic mulled wine. You are welcome to bring alcohol for your own consumption, but as Tom at the Robin is missing out on our business, maybe stop there for pre-gig cocktails or book a table for lunch before heading up to the venue. We'd join you if we weren't setting up!

It's likely there will still be Covid prevention measures in place so keep testing please, don't attend if feeling poorly, bring along proof of negative result or Vax certs, and a mask.
