Angeline Morrison And January Girls At Rosslyn Court- A Power Of Women Fringe Event Event Title Pic

Description

Rosslyn Court is proud to be part of the Power of Women (POW) festival
This year we have something a bit different.
Angeline Morrison has shot to the attention of the folk world in the past 6 months. We would like to say that it is due to her performance at Rosslyn Court last year but who knows, it may be due to her beautiful voice and easy rapport with her audience, her arrangement of traditional songs or her engagement with contemporary music. Based in Cornwall she is unable to travel here on March 3rd but we thought her so good last time that we have asked her to record a video specifically for us for our POW fringe event.
Currently Angeline Morrison is working on an album of material that seeks to re-story blackness into the folk songs of these islands. The Sorrow Songs : Folk Songs of Black British Experience involves researching the ordinary and extraordinary lives of the historic black population of these islands, and storying them into songs in the folk style. The UK?s historic black presence is well documented, but not well known ? and certainly not well represented in our folk songs. The Sorrow Songs seeks to tell these hidden histories in the form of folk songs, and in some small way to add to the voices represented in our folk songs. The Sorrow Songs : Folk Songs of Black British Experience is funded by Arts Council England, The English Folk Dance and Song Society, and FEAST Cornwall.
?Dark, unsettling folk that verges on the hymnal? (BBC Introducing).
?Uncommonly beautiful? (VelvetSheep.com)
?[Clouds Never Move]
? is one of the softest, yet most succinct statements on speaking your own truth possibly ever recorded. 2020 needed a record like this one, badly?. (Record Crates United).

January girls are very much in the room. They are a 4 piece band with infectious enthusiasm and energy. Expect to be jigging in your seat to traditional and new songs. Join in if you like! Its going to be good. January Girls joined us for our POW livestream last year and were a great hit with everyone.
