Trad folk, jazz, Americana, blues and contemporary (her own compositions and those of others): she draws the essence out of every song she sings. Often referred to as a ?singer?s singer?, she?s attracted praise from singers of the stature of Dave Burland, Sara Grey, the late Roy Bailey and the legendary ?Queen of the Conyach? Sheila Stewart. In her singing career Kate has remained determinedly localist, rarely venturing beyond her adopted homeland of South Yorkshire (she was born on Clydeside of mixed Scottish and Irish parentage).
