For our first show in two years we present silent comedy genius Harold Lloyd's masterpiece 'Safety Last'. The classic film includes one of the most famous images from the era: Lloyd clutching the hands of a large clock as he dangles from the outside of a skyscraper above moving traffic. The film was highly successful and critically hailed, cementing Lloyd's status in early motion pictures. It is still popular, and is viewed today as one of the great film comedies.
Virtuoso Organist Donald McKenzie, who also plays at the Odeon Leicester Sq, will provide live accompaniment to the film on our vintage Warner instrument in Church, as well as introducing the night's entertainment.
In addition a short film will also be run before the main feature. The return of our Silent film extravaganza after a 2 year wait will be an occasion not to be missed by Hitchin's film buffs. It's 'safety first' for the organisers, Covid measures will be in place as official guidelines dictate. The large interior space gives more confidence that good ventilation can be maintained during the show. There will be an interval with bar in Church & Cantina Carnitas will sell Burritos at their pop-up in Church House next door from 6pm. Masks advised to be worn in Church where possible.
