Songs of Travel is a song cycle of nine songs originally written for baritone voice composed by Ralph Vaughan Williams, with poems drawn from the Robert Louis Stevenson collection Songs of Travel and Other Verses. Eastbourne College music teacher Chris Dixon is currently rehearsing some of the pupils for a performance of the entire cycle which will take place at the Birley Centre on Tuesday 3 May from 6.45pm to 7.45pm.
Ahead of that, as part of Circus, we are delighted to offer a ticketed masterclass where the pupils will be put through their paces by tenor Mark Le Brocq. After leaving the College, Mark won a choral scholarship to read English at St Catharine?s College, Cambridge, where he was a member of the Cambridge Singers. He trained at the Royal Academy of Music with Kenneth Bowen and at the National Opera Studio. Mark was a company principal at English National Opera for ten years since when has performed as a freelance opera singer in a number of 20th century and contemporary operas around the world.
Mark Le Brocq is an Old Eastbournian.
A bar will be open during the interval and we will be happy to accept donations in CASH only.
All profits raised will go directly to the Eastbourne College Bursary Fund, which offers young people the opportunity of a College education which they may not otherwise have.
