North Carolina bluegrass band Chathan County Line are touring this spring and we are excited to welcome them to Cornwall.

The band formed in 1996 at infamous music hotbed The Blue House, over 25yrs later and they've released 10 albums, toured the world, served as Judy Collins backing band and seen their last four albums reach #1 on the American Bluegrass chart.

There hasn't been too much innovation of the bluegrass sound since front porch concerts first gave mountain folk a musical escape from life's hardships, and Chatham County Line taps into Appalachia nostalgia, doing its best to keep the sameness flowing.

At the same time, perhaps due the bands rock and roll past, there's a streak of rebellion pushing their peculiar breed of twang as far out as they can without losing too much authenticity.

And perhaps for this reason their music has been dubbed new-grass and rock-grass. Their beautifully crafted melodies opening the band to far boarder audience than would normally be the case.

They have honed their sound over the years, marrying sometimes contrasting flavours into the same song. For example the gruffness of Steve Earle can be heard alongside the heartbreak of Gram Parsons. This complexity breathes life into their music like a cool summer breeze winding its way through a lush Appalachian mountain.

Chatham County Line bring something different to the table with stories from distant lands and long-lost times and after the 2yrs we've all been through alittle escapism is just what the doctor ordered.
