"The sweetest voice of her generation of English folkies" - The Independent
It?s possible to remain a newcomer in folk music longer than in any other genre, but after 17 years and seven solo albums Jackie Oates is now considered one of the mainstays of the English traditional music scene that began in the early 2000s and continues to thrive.
September 2022 sees the launch of ?Gracious Wings?, Jackie?s eighth solo studio album, and on this tour The Jackie Oates Trio features Jackie on fiddle and vocals, Mike Cosgrave (piano, accordion, guitar) and John Parker (double bass).
Jackie?s last album, 2018?s ?The Joy Of Living?, followed the death of her beloved father five days after the birth of her first child. Reaching beyond the past lives in folk song to the lived experience of all of us, The Guardian called it ?utterly gorgeous? moving, depth-filled.? Her other albums include Hyporboreans, Saturnine, lullabies, and The Spyglass and the Herringbone.
Since then, Jackie has released classic covers with Scritti Politti?s Rhodri Marsden, researched pagan Bath for the mavericks at Lush cosmetics, been artist In residence at the Museum of English Rural Life, lent her voice and musicianship to CBeebies? Nick Cope?s Popcast, and produced a ?radio ballad? about the history of lace telling with collaborators including John Spiers and Mike Cosgrave.
Jackie lives in Oxfordshire with her young family, and continues to bring elements of the English folk tradition to new people and places; in turn bringing a much-needed calm and joy to those who hear it.
