Fortitude Valley is the new outlet for the songwriting talents of Durham based Brisbanite Laura Kovic. Having spent the majority of her musical career playing keyboards in other people?s bands, bringing their songs to life with a melodic flourish, it was about time for Laura K to find an outlet for her songs: awkward power-pop that?s bound to appeal to fans of The Beths, Weezer or The Weakerthans.


WEEKEND FAITHFUL

Let?s hear some praise for the big dumb rock song; Weekend Faithful?s debut track serves to remind us that rock music can still be fun. The band features a bunch of musicians who?ve tasted success in previous acts including Idle Hands, Canyons, Shy-Talk, Drifts, Cauls, Calf and Night Flowers. It?s worth forgiving the influences emblazoned unashamedly on Weekend Faithful?s sleeves ? from the Hold Steady-esque phrasing and piano stabs, to the anthemic Springsteen-style middle-eight which culminates in a glorious riot of guitar licks and trumpet blasts ? as Ranch Dream serves up a punchy paean to ?graceless days of drunken complacency. - Claire Dupree, Narc Magazine
