DJ and Turntablist NikNak deals in experimental, sculptural soundscapes.
The Leeds-based artist?s music spans a wide range of genres, from sparse, spacious electronics to jazz-inflected grooves. Her pioneering work saw her become the first Black Turntablist to win the Oram Prize in 2020.
For her new project Sankofa, NikNak creates an immersive audiovisual experience that explores the narrative of a young Black woman, Afrofuturism and comic book heroes via live Turntable improvisation and imagery from visual artist Loëpa.
