We are delighted to be welcoming back Danny George Wilson to Great Easton, as the acclaimed singer/songwriter tours his latest solo album Another Place.
It was way back in January 2019 when Danny last played here, as a member of Bennett Wilson Poole, and those of you who were there will remember just what a special night that was. His formidable credentials go back to the 1990s and his days in seminal UK roots rock band Grand Drive with brother Julian. There then followed a solo album released on Paris-based tastemaker label Fargo Records and six albums of consistently high calibre output with the revolving cast of his Danny & The Champions of the World incarnation. In 2016 the Champs swept the boards at the inaugural UK Americana Awards, winning with Album, Artist and Song of the Year, and in 2019 he - alongside Robin Bennett (The Dreaming Spires, Goldrush, Saint Etienne) and Tony Poole (Starry Eyed and Laughing) - bagged both UK Americana Awards ?Artist of the Year? and ?Band of the Year? just a few days after BWP played the village hall.
Despite the disruption caused by the pandemic, Another Place was released last October to acclaim from press and fans alike and was voted Americana UK's Album of the Year for 2021. A departure for Danny, the album presents a vibrant and diverse collection of startling, impressionistic songs created in collaboration with Sussex-based studio wizard Hamish Benjamin. The album features contributions from Jeff Tweedy (Wilco), Gerard Love (Teenage Fanclub) and Emma Swift.
"an idiosyncratic gem...one of Wilson's finest" ???? Mojo
"Wilson?s weather-beaten voice is an atmospheric conduit for tales of troubled romance and hopes for happier times ahead" Uncut
"mightily impressive" ???? Daily Express
"sheer beauty" ???? RnR
Although this is a solo album tour, Danny brings a talent-packed band with him. Danny & The Champs stalwart Paul Lush is not only an amazing guitar player, but released his own album 'And There It Is' to great acclaim in 2021 under the moniker Araluen. Multi-instrumentalist Joe Bennett (bass) was also on stage when BWP visited in 2021 and has a musical CV the length of your arm, playing with numerous bands and producing many albums. Henry Garratt (keyboards) and Steve Brookes (drums) complete the lineup.
Support comes from Katy Rose Bennett who will be playing songs from her recent Alone On A Hill album, as well as selections from her hugely impressive back-catalogue.
