CHILDREN OF THE NEW FLESH
David Cronenberg is one of the most fearless and visionary directors of the late 20th and early 21st centuries. As the inventor of the ?body horror? subgenre, he has stretched human bodies and psyches into weird and gruesome vanguard shapes over his half-century of career. A new book of essays, poetry and fiction, Children Of The New Flesh, published on June 30th, celebrates the far-reaching influence and inspiration his slimy cinematic tentacles have had in modern cinema, and on art in general. To tie in with this book launch, The Ice Box will be hosting a Cronenberg double feature on Friday, July 1st. This will include a little-known, very personal 1976 short from the Canadian director, The Italian Machine, followed by a rare screening of his prophetic technoflesh masterpiece, 1983?s Videodrome. Writers Graham Rae, Elle Nash, and Chris Kelso from the book will be on hand to give readings and film introductions, and copies of Children Of The New Flesh will be available for purchase. Come and climb out of your skin with us, for an excellent evening of gruesome guts and gore and good reading!'
