The Tweed & Its Tributaries: Prehistoric Boundaries & Arteries Of Communication Event Title Pic

Description

Join us at Berwick Town Hall for a fascinating talk about the history and geography of our region, given as part of the Union Chain Bridge Project.

Our guest speaker, Kristian Pedersen, is an expert on the early history of our region, specialising in the way our local landscape affected life for the people who lived here in the Stone Age. The countryside of our area shows clues that it was well populated about 2 million years ago, and the talk will delve deeper into this.

In both his former work at Newcastle University and now for the Centre for Open Learning at the University of Edinburgh, Kristian Pedersen is keen to get the public interested in and involved with their local heritage and history. In his talk, he will explain how the rivers near us, including the Tweed and its tributaries acted as boundaries as well as uniting the larger landscape.
This is part of a series of talks inspired by the heritage and setting of the Union Chain Bridge. The bridge is the world's oldest suspension bridge still used by vehicles, although it is currently closed for conservation. It crosses the River Tweed, linking Scottish Borders and Northumberland, so the theme of Kristian Pedersen's talk could not be more apt!

Join us on 16th June at 7pm, at Berwick Town Hall for the free talk.
