KOD?LY Variations on a Hungarian Folksong, 'The Peacock'
MAHLER Songs of a Wayfarer
TCHAIKOVSKY Swan Lake Suite

Trinity Orchestra
Conductor: John Andrews
Baritone soloist: James Cleverton

Four exciting works make up this programme, conducted by Trinity Orchestra?s impressive Music Director John Andrews.

Tchaikovsky?s Swan Lake Suite transports us to the world of classical ballet and is full of familiar tunes and lush harmonies.

Baritone soloist James Cleverton (pictured above), who has sung at most of the top Opera Houses, joins the orchestra to perform the powerful Songs of a Wayfarer by Gustav Mahler ? a cycle of four songs written in the wake of the composer?s unhappy love for soprano Joanna Richter.

Renowned Belize-born British composer, Errollyn Wallen, is also a librettist and singer-songwriter. Her magnificent work Mighty River ? in recent years the focus of an award-winning National Youth Orchestra project celebrating the voices of Black composers ? explores themes of slavery and freedom.

Written some 70 years earlier, Zoltán Kodály?s compelling Variations on a Hungarian Folksong, The Peacock, has a similar theme (?fly, peacock, fly?to give freedom to poor prisoners?). The variations all express different emotions, with a dance finale which hurtles head-long towards the brilliant ending.

Join John Andrews for a free pre-concert talk at 7pm.
