Description

The dance space will be well ventilated. Please wear layers so you are able to regulate your temperature.

Gabrielle Roth?s 5 Rhythms is a conscious dance practice suitable for any body. The 5 Rhythms are: flowing, staccato, chaos, lyrical and stillness. Each rhythm explores a distinct quality that can support us in different aspects of our lives. Together they form a 'wave' that follows the natural rise and fall of energy. Classes can have different themes but are always supported by this simple but profound structure.

A guided warm up at the start of the class will get you moving and help self-consciousness slip away. Each rhythm is like a landscape with many different paths through it, so every time you dance the experience is unique. There are no set moves or steps. It?s your dance so you can?t get it wrong!

Dancing a wave can can help you reconnect with yourself and others on a deep level. Because the whole self is invited to move, not just the body, you may find that your dance stirs thoughts and feelings. Letting yourself move with whatever comes up can be an effective way of processing these without the need for words. The important thing is to keep tuning in to your own body and breath and allowing the movement to be instinctive. The structure of the wave will help to contain the experience as landing in stillness brings a natural sense of completion.
