Roger Field, former soldier and author, in conversation on his new Falklands War memoir, 'Scimitar into Stanley'.

On the 40th anniversary of the Falklands War, we are joined by Roger to discuss his time serving in Brigade HQ and on the frontline.
Roger was commissioned into The Blues and Royals in 1974 and served for 10 years, seeing action in the Falklands, where he brought not only his shotgun ? vital for goose shooting, post war ? but also a bottle of Lagavulin malt: useful when one Max Hastings shared his trench before the battle of Wireless Ridge.
Told by his Colonel it was time to get serious if he wanted to command, Roger took him literally and quit the army, retraining as a media lawyer, working in television and publishing, latterly as Legal Director of the Random House Group. He continues to advise media clients.
For 20 years Roger has been writing articles for national newspapers and magazines on subjects as diverse as property, travel, motoring, antique collecting and fishing.
His first book, 'Rogue Male' ? the untold story of one of the most lethal and successful soldiers of World War Two ? was published by Hodder & Stoughton in 2011 and hit No 2 in The Evening Standard non-fiction chart.
His most recent book, 'Scimitar into Stanley', is a memoir of his time in the Falklands.
