Richard Wood trumpet
Rimsky-Korsakov - Capriccio Espagnol
Arutiunian - Trumpet Concerto
Tchaikovsky - Symphony No.6 ?Pathétique?
We open the season with Rimsky-Korsakov?s orchestral show- piece, Capriccio Espagnol. Composed in 1887, the work makes use of popular Spanish folksongs and embodies the joys of an idyllic Spanish life.
Our soloist, Richard Wood, is the orchestra?s Principal Trumpet. Richard will be performing the popular concerto by Alexander Arutiunian. Written during the period 1943-1950, Arutiunian fuses Armenian folksongs and cultural idiosyncrasies into the standard Russian concerto. It?s the perfect work to showcase Richard?s amazing talents!
We close our concert with a symphony that made the classical musical world rethink the emotional possibilities of this oeuvre; Tchaikovsky?s Symphony No. 6 in B minor Op.74, the Pathétique. Of Ukrainian heritage, Tchaikovsky frequently returned to his roots for inspiration and solace. The Pathétique fulfils Tchaikovsky's visions in many ways. Join us for what promises to be a beautiful and emotional evening.
