The next Bossaphonik event is on Friday 16th September and we are super excited to welcome PYJAEN and their forward-thinking dancefloor jazz-fusion for the first time in Oxford!

PYJAEN reach inside the deep, multidimensional well of what is broadly called jazz, and bring together it?s diverse components into a singular emotional groove-based sound aimed at the dancefloor. Seamlessly merging funk, Afro beat and contemporary grooves with a nod to hip hop and disco, whilst acknowledging the traditional era of 1920s jazz. The band have set a blueprint for their multi-faceted artistry since forming in 2016, with their early releases gathering wide public critical acclaim, including support from Gilles Peterson, Huey Morgan and many other DJs alongside Jazz FM and The Clash Magazine. The five members of the band are gifted players on drums, bass, guitar, sax and trumpet/keyboard.

Adventurous songwriting, meticulous timing, incredibly tight horn arrangements and an obvious joy to play together are the PYJAEN trademarks. The new chapter of the band?s creative journey has seen them creating room for featured artists - the likes of the jazz hip hop of Blue Lab Beats, rapper Nix Northwest, Odette Peters and other luminaries. Their sizzling atmosphere and sense of enjoyment has been emitted from stages such as Ronnie Scotts, The Jazz Cafe, Vortex Jazz Club, Glastonbury, Love Supreme Festival and Brainchild Festival.
They have recently been working hard writing for their second full-length LP, ?FEAST,? recorded and at Peter Gabriels legendary Real World studios. Showing the strong personalities of the 5 individuals, the new material fearlessly navigates the world of funk, jazz, hip hop and punk, all with their trademark raw energy, and the common objective of bringing people together in their love for music.

Following on from PJAEN is a Bossaphonik club session, featuring guest DJ Boomshank ? a longtime favourite DJ at Bossaphonik, DJ Boomshank is also a superb saxophonist and part of the Dutty Moonshine Big Band and also local brass band Temple Funk Collective. Alongside Bossaphonik resident DJ Dan Ofer they will bring dancefloor joy til 1:30am with:
