Seascape and fate
Our first programme opens with Frank Bridge?s Suite The Sea, not only his most popular work in his own lifetime, but also the work which so completely bowled over the 13-year old Benjamin Britten, that Britten became Bridge?s pupil for seven years.
Tchaikovsky?s Fourth Symphony, completed following the collapse of his
disastrous marriage, embodies his belief that life is governed by Fate and no-one can escape its grasp.
Bruch?s highly engaging Scottish Fantasy completes the programme.
