Longtime staunch supporters of The Greys, performing in various combinations, tonight sees a unique appearance, with solo sets by both Iain Matthews and Andy Roberts, highlighting their individual repertoire, with a duo collaboration celebrating the half-centenary of the album ?In Search Of Amelia Earhart?. Just over 50 years ago, Iain Matthews and Andy Roberts ?hitched our fortunes (briefly) to the same post and started Plainsong*?. This year sees a few significant events, with Ian Clayton?s book ?In Search Of Plainsong? chronicling the musical adventures, the formation and disintegration of that first line-up ?...when we were 25 and foolish, it would seem*?. It unveils, in detail, the story of that most remarkable album which is just now rereleased as a 6CD Box Set 'Following Amelia'.

Also, July this year saw the unexpected passing of their longtime manager and friend, Sandy Roberton, a shock to both Iain and Andy, which has prompted a brief set of dates to mark all three of those events.

Iain Matthews has a majestic, broad wealth of songs from his solo career and numerous collaborations - a founder member of Fairport Convention (and a frequent return guest at their Cropredy Convention), Matthews Southern Comfort (a number 1 hit with 'Woodstock' and their new ?The Woodstock album? is imminent), Michael Nesmith, Emitt Rhodes, Searing Quartet, BJ Baartmans and, of course, Plainsong. He promises to explore some of this magnificent repertoire.

Andy Roberts is most noted for his collaborations, from early Liverpool Scene, Scaffold, Grimms, Bonzos, through Hank Wangford, Roy Harper, Pink Floyd, Mike Berry and innumerable sessions. But his solo albums from the early 70?s remain wonderful works. Andy very rarely performs solo (21 years back he was persuaded to play The Greys for Mike Lance, I well remember that gig... and Japan 2006, he says, was his ?last solo set anywhere outside Brighton... claiming rarity value... though there is the danger that Sh*thead Breath could be joining me. He just doesn?t know it yet*?).
